The Songwriter Fund

Back by Songwriters of North America (SONA) and SONY Music Publishing, the Songwriter Fund began accepting applications for pandemic emergency grants in May 2020, shortly after the pandemic was officially acknowledged in the United States.

The Songwriter Fund grew out of an effort by songwriters Michelle Lewis and Autumn Rowe to raise money for struggling peers. The official fund was born after SONA came aboard to help create a larger, more structured operation. Initial donations came from a mixture of private and corporate donors, including major support from Sony Music Publishing.

Currently, alongside Rowe, the fund is co-directed songwriter Michelle Featherstone, with overall management by songwriter Sarah Robertson.

Since it’s inception, the Songwriter Fund has given out over $500,000 in grants, has been featured in Billboard and Variety and supported by numerous donors, without whom we could not do the vital work we do to support our songwriting community.
